Stress-busting Smoothie

Many people suffer with adrenal stress leading to surges in the hormone cortisol, causing anxiety and possibly sleep disturbances. Recent studies have shown that taking probiotic supplements and fermented foods can reduce stress and anxiety. For tackling stress there are also adaptogenic herbs that can help the body to adapt or cope with the stress that it is under. Maca is one example. Increasing your intake of magnesium-rich foods might also be helpful. Magnesium can aid relaxation and sleep, but it is also rapidly depleted during times of stress or heavy exercise. Magnesium-rich foods include dark leafy greens, nuts and seeds, fish, avocado and cacao powder.
