What is the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test?
Standard blood tests measure hormones on a single day. But for cycling women, the picture changes dramatically across the month. The DUTCH Cycle Mapping test collects nine targeted measurements of oestrogen and progesterone across your cycle, characterising each phase individually: follicular, ovulatory and luteal.
This means we can see exactly where the hormonal imbalances are occurring, whether progesterone is truly rising in the second half, how oestrogen behaves relative to it, and what your androgens and cortisol are doing throughout. For women in perimenopause, where cycles have become irregular and symptoms are shifting month to month, this level of detail is particularly valuable.

What does the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test involve?
The test is completed over a full cycle or four weeks, whichever is applicable for you. Instructions are included in the kit for women with short, long, irregular or absent cycles. You collect urine samples on filter paper cards at specific points across the cycle and post them to the lab using the pre-paid envelope.
This is a two-part test. The Cycle Mapping component tracks oestrogen and progesterone across the month. The Complete component adds the full adrenal hormone profile, cortisol rhythm, melatonin and organic acid markers. Together, they give a complete picture of what your hormones are doing and why.
Not sure which test is right for you? If you are taking progesterone only (not oestrogen), this is the correct test. If you have the Mirena coil but are not on oestrogen HRT, this is also the correct test. It is not suitable for women taking oestrogen HRT — those women should book the DUTCH Complete instead.

Can I do the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test if I have the Mirena coil?
Yes, if you have the Mirena coil and are not on oestrogen HRT, the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test is the correct test for you. If you have the Mirena coil and are also taking oestrogen HRT, you should book the DUTCH Complete instead.
