Why do some people feel hungry all the time and others don’t?
Genes play a huge role in influencing ALL our body weights, however some people carry more genetic risk factors, making them feel slightly hungrier all the time, leading them to eat more than others.
Two of the most impactful genes on hunger are FTO and LEPR genes. We all have these genes but some people have inherited a slightly different version of FTO and/or LEPR which increases their risk of becoming obese.
One of the best ways to combat constant hunger is an ‘intermittent fasting’ diet. There are variations on this type of diet that may work and some will suit people more than others.
-
Whole day fasting – 1-2 days per week you restrict calories to 25% and no restrictions on other days. Similar to Dr Michael Mosleys 5:2 but I would focus on low carb on the fasting days and try fasting two days in a row.
-
Alternate day fasting – where you would alternate days of fasting and non fasting days.
-
Time-restricted feeding – the 16:8 for example. Where you fast for 16 hours and eat two meals within 8 hours.
The most common is this later 16:8 as it suits many people’s temperaments as it’s only a moderate restriction but ever day. Others who like to socialise may find it easier to focus on two days of severe calorie restriction during the week.
So it is a matter of trying and testing to see what suits you. Let me know .

Please note that fasting is not recommended during pregnancy and some other medical conditions so do check with your practitioner.
