Why we should eat the rainbow

Did you see the BBC The Truth About Your Immune System programme last week? If not I urge you to watch it on Catch Up. ⠀
In the programme they conducted studies on consuming fibre (particularly from plant sources) and our immune system. The results showed people who ate more fibre had better gut diversity which led to a stronger immune system. I often see this first hand when looking at the GI360 stool test results of my clients. Those with a good diversity generally have less symptoms and less likely to have pathogens like bacteria, fungus or virus. ⠀

Consuming different colour vegetables plays a role in insuring you are getting enough essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre, and more. Sorry guys but you just can’t expect a supplement to take its place! And I also mean EATING the whole vegetable and not juicing so you get the fibre too. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Eating this way can help to protect against many potential body ailments and chronic diseases such as illnesses like the flu, cancers, digestive issues, declining vision, loss of bone density, and can even help with weight management.

Eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains (if tolerated), nuts and legumes that have different types of fibre in them also supports lots of different types of microbes that rely on fibre as an energy source within our bodies. I always encourage my clients to eat lots of green leafy vegetables and to 'eat the rainbow' so that they can help support gut health and microbial diversity.⠀⠀

Also, your mood will most likely be lifted when your plate is full of a variety of visually appealing bright colours versus covered in a dull, white, and plain blandness. Brighten up your plate and you will brighten up your health
