Why we should all be eating Sauerkraut
The health benefits of Sauerkraut and other fermented foods are numerous.
Fermentation simply refers to an ancient technique and preservation method that naturally alters the chemistry of foods. Similar to cultured dairy products like yogurt and kefir, sauerkraut’s fermentation process produces beneficial probiotics that are now linked to improvements in immune, cognitive, digestive and endocrine function. Although sauerkraut contains far more of these beneficial probiotics than live yoghurt.
Some of the health benefits of sauerkraut include its ability to increase your digestive health, boost your circulation, protect your heart health, provide you with quick energy, stimulate your immune system, strengthen your bones, reduce your overall cholesterol levels, eliminate inflammation, help protect against certain cancer, and even improve your vision and skin health.
I eat sauerkraut or kimchi daily and it's something I recommend that my clients try to include in their diets.
To reap the benefits it's important to eat raw and unpasteurised sauerkraut. I don't often have time to make it so it is one item I do like to buy. I buy from a lovely little UK company whose ingredients are top quality and organic.
